How to choose the correct Interior paint

Posted by admin under Uncategorized

There are four types of paint that you can use for the interior of your home or office. They are Flat, Stain or Eggshell, Semi-gloss, and Gloss. Most companies (Sherwin Williams, Home Depot, Lowe’s and more) will carry all the different paint products. We will try to give you a good brake down of what each one is and why you should use one over the other.
Flat paint: This paint is great for your ceilings and areas that will not have a lot of traffic. Flat paint has no shine to it, so it hides any imperfections on your walls. If you have an older home or the kids have moved out, you may want to think about using flat paint on your walls, because it is very easy to touch up and you will never see a difference in color. Please do not use the flat paint in any of your full size bathrooms. Flat paint may leave you with dark lines or spots all over your new painted walls because of the steam. Use a Stain or Eggshell. Don’t hesitate to give AtlantaWallcovering and More a call if you have questions or you need some help finishing or even starting your project.
Stain or Eggshell paint: This paint has a more of a shine to it, like an egg shell. This paint is good for homes that have small children or pets, because unlike flat paint you may wipe off things like finger prints or markings on the walls. Just be careful, you do not want to rub too hard. The only drawback on this paint is that it will show all the imperfections on your walls. It’s best to have a professional company that is very knowledgeable on mudding and sanding to do the paint job or you may not be very happy with the result and you cannot touch it up, because it will dry at a different shade.
Semi-gloss paint: This paint has a little more shine then stain or eggshell. It is good for trim, bookcases, bookshelves, cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms.
Gloss paint: This paint cleans easily and resists scuffs. It is a good choice for high traffic or constant use areas and items, such as outdoor furniture. For shutters and other trim, gloss paint provides a sleek look. Gloss paint will, however, show imperfections on the surface more than other paint and will not cover rough spots. Gloss paint is mostly used for industrial applications.

We at AtlantaWallcovering & More hope that this will help you on your next project. Just remember if you have any questions or you need some friendly advice we are just a phone call away. 678 231 0520.

How to install a ceiling fan in your home or office.

Posted by admin under Uncategorized

Installing a ceiling fan can be a dangerous job, and should be done by a professional, especially considering the risk of electrical shock. If you choose to do it yourself, make sure you follow the proper safety steps that listed below and any instructions included from the manufacturer.

1. Before removing or installing anything, locate your breaker box or fuse box. If you don’t know the exact breaker or fuse, we suggest that you turn off the main power to your entire home.

2. It is very important that you inform all the members of the family or put a note near the switch, so that no one accidentally turns the power back on, while you are working.

3. If you have a circuit tester and you are familiar with how it works, go ahead and confirm that there is no current flowing to the supply.

4. The next step is to remove the old fixture. You will need to get on a ladder and carefully unbolt the mountings of the old light fixture and disconnect the electrical wires. Get help if you can. Usually you will see three wires, a black wire (live wire), white wire (neutral), and a green wire or a bare wire (Ground wires).

5. After carefully disconnecting all the wires, go ahead and assemble the blades on the ceiling fan. Mount the brackets to the blades and screw the hardware onto the blades as per instructions provided in the manufacture’s booklet.

6. Go ahead and install the blades onto the fan motor. Make sure you install the blades tightly or the fan may wobble. After this, install the down rod which will help to hang the fan from the ceiling. Make sure that the rod is long enough, because if the fan is too close to the ceiling, it will prevent proper air flow from moving freely.

7. Before you get ready to attach the fan, you will need to push the wires through the down rod. The wires will probably be unbelievably long, so it’s better to tape the wires and then push them through the rod.

8. Make sure you have the proper remodeling box to support the ceiling fan. To attach the brackets lift the fan and attach. Turn the fan, so that the ball is sealed in place. You can hang the fan by using the working hook that is attached to the mounting bracket. This will make wiring a bit easier.

9. Attaching the wires properly is very important. Its color coded, green to green, white to white, and black to black. Screw the wires appropriately and look out for loose ends. Cover the wires with a screwed on wire nut.

10. Now you can push all the extra wiring inside the electrical box. Double check that the wiring is properly done

11. Put on the decorative cover and you are ready to turn the power on, so that you can test your work. If the fan starts making noises or starts wobbling, it may require you to use a balancing kit; look for it in the box. You may just need to retighten the blades.

12. If you should run in into any problems give AtlantaWallcovering & more a call at 678.231.0520 and we will either help you over the phone or for a small fee come out to you and have one of our professional install it for you.

13. Remember, Safety is paramount, and no amount of money you can save by doing a job yourself can amount to the injuries you can receive working with live wires. If you are unsure, give us a call, you’ll be sure that our expertise and experience will save your time, your safety, and your wallet.

How to properly remove wallpaper.

Posted by admin under Uncategorized

Before you take on a project on such as removing wallpaper, there are a few things you should know. Firs, for an average size room (12×12), it will take a professional a minimum of 2days to properly remove the wallpaper and get the wall ready for paint or re-wallpaper. Second, you must have the right tools. And finally you will need some patience. Remember if you run in to any problems, feel free to give AtlantaWallcovering & MORE a call, and we will gladly point you in the right direction. Or, if you just want a professional to do it for, just give us a call 678 231 0520. So if you’re ready let’s get started.

  • · You will need to head to a nearest home improvement store to perches a few things for removing wallpaper and painting or re-wallpapering.
  • · Wallpaper steamer is one of the things that you could use, but it’s a bit expensive and not all that effective. We recommend that you perches a chemical called DIFF, and a spray doc. By filling the spray doc with ¾ of worm water and adding 4 to 5 cap of DIFF this will soften the wallpaper for a much easier removal. If the store does not carry DIFF ask them for a similar product. DIFF is not a deadly chemical, but I would not suggest drinking it or getting it into your eyes. Make sure you have a well vented room when using DIFF, and read the instructions on the back properly.
  • · You may also want to get a scoring tool, which is a tool that will score small holes in the wallpaper, thereby allowing the chemicals or steam to penetrate in to the wallpaper and loosen the glue. Don’t push too hard on the scouring tool, because you need to avoid damaging the walls as much as possible if you plan to paint or re-wallpaper.
  • · You will so need a scraping tool, putty knife or something that has a sharp edge, this will help you lift off the wallpaper piece by piece as the wallpaper become loose. Don’t forget a ladder some trash bags, and covers, so that you can cover your belongings.

  1. 1. Start by using the scoring tool and go over the walls with it from top to bottom.
  2. 2. After you have done that, use the spray doc and just like you did with the scoring tool spray the entire room from top to bottom. Make sure that you do not over spray the walls or you may end up damage your floors and ceiling if there is too much water.
  3. 3. Depending on the size of the room you may want to give it a few minutes before trying to remove the wallpaper.
  4. 4. Now go ahead with your putty knife or whatever you prefer, and try to remove the wallpaper. Start at a seam. The best is to start from the first place you sprayed. You may run into a liner or more wallpaper underneath the first layer. Don’t worry it happens a lot, go ahead and keep going with striping just the first layer. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE SECOND LAYER RIGHT NOW or you will do a lot of damage to your walls.
  5. 5. As your taking off the first layer, you may need to spray some more if you feel that the wallpaper is not damp anymore. Keep the wall paper damp and the process will be much easier.
  6. 6. Repeat this process as your removing each layer, do not leave any small pieces of paper on the walls, so that you will be able to paint or re-wallpaper later.
  7. 7. After you have removed all the paper off the walls, you will need to get a bucket of warm water and a sponge, so that you can wash the wall and remove all the glue off the walls. Start from top and work your way down, and remember your floors. Congratulations that was your final step in removing the wallpaper. You’re almost ready to paint or re-wallpaper.
  8. 8. At anytime if you feel over whelmed or you just had enough, call AtlantaWallcovering & MORE and our professional guys will come out and give you a hand, for a small charge.

Good luck to you from all of us at AtlantaWallcovering & MORE.

Hiring the right company for your project

Posted by admin under Uncategorized

Hiring the right painting, wallpaper or flooring contractor is essential to getting a good job done right, and not being ripped off by poor or inadequate service while paying fair market value. There are many contractor companies. There are small one-man companies, small companies that have a team of workers, and the big time contraction contractors who also take on painting, wallpaper and flooring jobs. The big time contractor will usually take on any type of home improvement work. They subcontract so usually have an availability of workers to do their jobs. When hiring a contracting company you will save move by going with the smaller one man or small team companies. The big time contractor must pay extra for subcontracting so will usually charge more. Big companies charge more for labor, paint, and the team they send to do the work. Typically there is up to a 400% markup on construction products, such as primer, paint, wallpaper, wallpaper glue, and so on. Witch is usually added on the final price. Most big companies will send out a salesman to do the estimating. When you see a man in a suit and a tie coming to give you an estimate – beware! This guy will sell you anything to make a dollar.

When hiring a company check their reference and what people are saying about them on Kudzu or Google. A good company will work with you on making sure that you are 100% satisfied with the color and work. They will work around your schedule. Do question them about different kinds of paint that work better in certain areas, for instance kitchen and bathroom. Especially if you have children or pets you will need a good washable paint for kitchen and bathroom. Preparing to paint

Posted by admin under Uncategorized

1.Go ahead and move what furniture you can outside the room. Move what’s left into the center of the room and cover with some plastic covers or drop cloths (both you can find at any hardware stores). Use removable masking tape around moldings, doors and windows, and drop cloths to protect floors, make sure that the tape is safe to use.

2.Cover all the smoke detectors with a plastic bag and turn off air conditioning or heating while sanding or painting.

3.It is very important that you sand or scrape loose and flaky paint with sandpaper and down to bare surfaces if necessary.

4.Walk around the room and check to see if there is any nail and screw holes cracks in the wall, or any other small damages. Using a putty knife with joint compound to fill in all the holes and cracks. If you should see some cracks between your crown molding, baseboard, around windows or doors, go ahead and cluck all the areas.

5.For more serious repairs, use drywall-taping techniques to patch hole in drywall. For more information on that you can give us a call and we will be more than happy to assist you or you can look it up on YouTube.

6.Before you start painting it is very important that you go back over all the MUDDING that you did, and using a sander and sand paper, sand everything down smooth. If you do not, you will see all the imperfections after you paint your walls. That is why you may have to go over with joint compound again. Repeat the task as many times as necessary until you have nice smooth walls. If you start to get over whelmed, just give Atlantawallcovering a call and we will gladly give you a helping hand.
